The idea
Before you pay, understand which option you are using. A business page and an ordinary post can exist without buying advertising; paid ads are a separate purchase. Across channels, confirm the price, terms, and how to cancel before accepting.
Yelp: the page and ads are different Yelp says that claiming a Yelp page is free and lets a business manage information, photos, and responses to customers. Claiming the page does not make you an advertiser. Yelp also offers paid advertising. The linked advertising terms describe a cost-per-click (CPC) program with variable bids and an agreed maximum monthly budget. Products and terms can change: review the current order and terms in your account before buying. Do not count on promotional credits unless a current offer and its terms are available in writing.
Social media: posting and promoting An organic post is content you share without paying to distribute that content as an ad. You can share updates, show your work, and talk with people who follow your page. Having followers does not guarantee that every post reaches all of them or by itself produce customers.
Paid promotion turns a post or campaign into advertising. Meta's official tools describe campaign objectives, options for reaching audiences, and budgets that state how much you plan to spend. Options can vary. Choose a relevant audience, start only with an amount you can afford to lose, and review spend and results; targeting does not guarantee sales or a specific reach.
Practical plan: 1. First fix the basics: an accurate business listing, current hours, contact methods, and an offer you can deliver. 2. Share useful, truthful organic posts; pay attention to the questions you receive and what people actually need. 3. If you test advertising, write down a measurable goal, set an audience and spending limit, check the preview and end date, and track attributable calls, messages, or visits. 4. Compare the result with the cost, and stop or change the campaign if it is not useful. Never use false urgency or promise outcomes.
