Lesson
How to claim, verify, and maintain your free Google Business Profile—and distinguish it from paid advertising.
15 min read
The idea
If your business is eligible under Google's requirements, you can manage a Business Profile on Google at no charge. It is your business listing on Google Search and Maps; it is not the same as buying ads.
a verified, well-maintained profile helps people looking for you find current information, see what you offer, and read customer experiences. It does not guarantee a particular ranking, calls, or sales.
Do it step by step
Search for your business and claim or create the profile through Google's official process. Google may ask you to verify that you are authorized to represent it; follow the method Google provides and do not share verification codes with third parties.
Complete the real business name, category, phone, website, address or service area as appropriate, and regular hours. Update special hours when they change.
Add current, genuine photos of the location, products, or work. Do not use images that imply you offer something you do not.
Review the profile regularly. Respond to reviews respectfully, without revealing private information or offering anything in exchange for a review.
Keep owner and manager access current. Google's official material also explains location-based ad options; those ads are a separate purchase and do not turn the free listing itself into an ad.
An important note
the profile has no charge for eligible businesses; optional advertising can cost money, and its terms depend on the campaign. Check prices and settings in your own account before accepting.
