Lesson
How to protect your work quality without taking on more than you can handle.
12 min read
The idea
Many business owners believe that saying yes to every customer, every order, and every request is the only way to grow. But when you take on more work than you can actually handle well, quality drops, existing customers feel neglected, and you end up exhausted.
a business that grows faster than its real capacity allows usually ends up with unhappy customers, late deliveries, and an exhausted owner who cannot keep up that pace for long. Protecting your capacity is a way of protecting the quality of what you offer.
Do it step by step
During one normal week, write down how many hours you actually spend serving customers, producing your product or service, and handling the administrative side of the business.
Compare those hours to the hours you have available in a sustainable way, without constantly sacrificing your rest or your health.
Identify the point where accepting more work starts to lower the quality of what you deliver or delay your delivery times.
Clearly define how many customers or orders you can accept per week or per month without crossing that point.
Practice saying no, or offering a more realistic timeline, when a request goes beyond your current capacity, explaining the reason honestly.
An important note
recognizing your limits is not a weakness and does not mean your business cannot grow. It is a way to protect the quality of your work and your own health while you find sustainable ways to increase your capacity over time.
